Office of the Dean

A Message from Dean Jill Gordon

Located in the heart of a legacy city, The Levin College of Public Affairs and Education (Levin College) draws from our interdisciplinary strengths to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to tackle complex issues from multiple angles. Our goal is to develop a pipeline for public impact professionals- self-reflective leaders who build urban communities through civic engagement, collaboration, and innovation. For these reasons, I am honored to serve as the dean of Levin College and to return to my hometown of Cleveland!

Our world is changing at a rapid pace creating opportunities and advancements, as well as challenges. The Levin College faculty and staff embrace the fluid and dynamic nature of our local, regional, and national communities by utilizing a multi-disciplinary approach. Academic research and the Levin student experience are fortified through integrated learning and high community engagement. As such, the Levin College is:

Nationally Recognized

The Levin College is viewed as a leader in urban policy, education, local government, and nonprofit administration. Since 1966, our commitment to and impact on Cleveland, the Northeast Ohio region, and the state of Ohio has been significant- and we are not slowing down! The research pursued by our academic faculty and center personnel demonstrates our continued desire to impact the evolving landscape of public, civic, and societal infrastructure.

An Engine for Knowledge

Our faculty and staff are committed to advancing knowledge, and promoting a diverse and inclusive environment that fosters justice and equity. We do this through the Columbus Seminar, the Masters of Urban Secondary Teaching (MUST) Residency Program, the Criminology Research Center, and raising community awareness through Cleveland Conversations

A Partner in Urban Transformation

Engaged learning serves as a common thread across Levin College disciplines. Students will make deep connections to community partners within the classroom and beyond through internships, mentoring opportunities, and student teaching. As a key regional partner, Levin students, faculty, and staff drive progress on many issues including public education, community violence, and urban planning.

Our students benefit from our deep community connections and network of talented alumni, locally and beyond. Levin College’s commitment to meeting the changing needs of our community, and our students, has been recognized through several prestigious awards including the Dr. Shirley S. Schwartz Urban Education Impact Award and the Vibrant NEO Regional Champion Award.

I invite you to learn more about Levin College’s academic programs. Whether you are a career professional interested in retooling your leadership skills or a high school student exploring undergraduate opportunities that improve your schools and community- Levin College offers everything you will need as a public impact professional.
