COM 490 Enrollment Process

Step 1: To determine if you are eligible, contact Dr. Elizabeth Pask, Director of Internships: e.pask@csuohio.edu”.

Step 2: Search for Internships. Start your search by accessing CSU’s Hire a Vike job board. You can also find internship opportunities posted on company websites, professional association websites, and online job search engines (e.g., Glassdoor, LinkedIn, ZipRecruiter). Employers must meet standards for experiential education, including supervision provided by a professional in the student’s chosen career field.

Step 3: Apply for Internships. The process for obtaining an internship is similar to obtaining a job. You must apply directly to the employer for the internship by sending your resume, cover letter and any portfolio items requested. For help writing a resume/cover letter and interview preparation check out Viking Resources or make an appointment with Career Services.

Step 4: Complete the COM 490 Communication Internship Agreement form. After you have been offered an internship, ask the employer to complete and sign the COM 490 Internship Agreement form. Permission to register for COM 490 is granted after a completed Internship Agreement form has been received and approved by the School’s Internship Director.

COM 490 Credit Limits

Students can apply a maximum of 3 credits of COM 490 toward their School of Communication Major degree program (see the elective section of your major check sheet). An additional 3 credits of COM 490 can be applied towards your university graduation requirements.
