International City Management Program

Undergraduate Program Guide | Graduate Program Guide (from the CSU Catalog)

This program allows qualified students to pursue an Undergraduate Certificate in Public Management or a Graduate Certificate in Local and Urban Management. Depending on intended program of study, students may come for one, two, or three semesters. Credit hours earned in the certificate programs can be applied towards completion of a School of Urban Affairs degree program.

The International City Management program prepares students for post-graduate success, including:

  • Careers in public service that integrate and coordinate the work of government agencies, private businesses, and non-governmental organizations at national, regional and local levels.
  • Graduate study in related fields, including Public Administration, Urban Planning, Public Policy, and Law.
  • Leadership in the field of public management and opportunities for professional advancement.
Undergraduate Program

The Undergraduate Public Management certificate program consists of four courses: two required, and two electives.

Required Courses:

  • UST 452 Management of Urban and Nonprofit Organizations
  • UST 453 Managing Urban Diversity

Electives: The student chooses two courses. Please refer to the online catalog.

Courses may be applied to a bachelor’s degree from Cleveland State University.

Graduate Program

The Graduate Certificate Program in Local and Urban Management helps practitioners address the challenges and opportunities facing cities, such as budget cutbacks and equity planning. This program also assists experienced managers from the business or nonprofit sectors to make the transition into local government.

This certificate program blends the theory and practice of local government and gives participants the skills necessary to survive and succeed as effective and ethical leaders in local urban management. The course work in the curriculum reflects the priorities of practicing city managers. A total of four courses are required; two core courses and two electives.

Required Courses:

  • UST 619: City Management (4 credits)
  • UST 600: Introduction to Public Administration (4 credits)

Electives: The student chooses two courses. Please refer to the online catalog.

Graduate courses may be applied to a Master’s degree from Cleveland State University.
