Congratulations to Dinah Volk!
Dr. Volk is the winner of this year’s university Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award. She has taught at CSU since 1987 with a focus on early childhood teaching strategies. Before coming to CSU she was a teacher of preschoolers and 1st-2nd graders in the U.S. and Latin America, worked with bilingual teachers and parents for the Center for Urban and Minority Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, and taught at NYU and the Bank Street Levin College of Public Affairs and Education.
She is active in the local early childhood community. Dr. Volk conducts research, publishes articles, and makes presentations at local, national, and international levels on the language and literacy of young bilingual children and on culturally responsive teaching.
Her co-edited book, Many Pathways to Literacy: Young Children Learning with Siblings, Peers, Grandparents, and Communities, was published in 2004 by RoutledgeFalmer.
