Dr. Clayton Wukich, Associate Professor and Program Director of Levin’s Master of Public Administration and Master of Nonprofit Administration and Leadership programs, was quoted in a Wired Magazine article on how changes at Twitter might affect emergency management. In the article, Elon Musk's Twitter Isn’t Ready for the Next Natural Disaster, Dr. Wukich shares:  

"Other emergency responders worry about the effects of Twitter’s new verification plan, which is on hold after some users who paid for a verification check mark used their new status to imitate major brands, including Coca-Cola and drug company Eli Lilly. Emergency responders and people on the front lines of a disaster both need to be able to determine quickly whether an account is the legitimate Twitter presence of an official organization. They’re literally making life and death decisions.” 

Dr. Wukich has published extensively on how local governments use social media. His recent article, “Connecting Mayors: The Content and Formation of Twitter Information Networks,” published in Urban Affairs Review, examines the extent to which mayors who govern large US cities form ties with each other, the messages they create, and the factors that influence their associations. 

Another recent article by Dr. Wukich, “More Monitoring, Less Coordination: Twitter and Facebook Use between Emergency Management Agencies,” published in the Journal of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, explores how agencies use social networking applications and microblogs such as Twitter and Facebook to share information and interact with each other.
