How long have you worked for the Viking Corps or America Reads program?
Around 9 months.

After being part of Viking Corps or America Reads, what do you feel you have you been able to learn about the community or people you serve?
The children at the South Euclid-Lyndhurst Cuyahoga County Public Library Branch were such a pleasure to teach. Every day I heard a new story from one of them or I would see excitement when they learned something new. I also enjoyed helping out the community. This is a very tight knit community that supports its youth.

What benefits do you feel you gained from being part of the Viking Corps or America Reads program and/or getting to work with the program's staff?
A benefit I have gained was the knowledge I have received about my career path through this program. A lot of the other tutors I worked with from other organizations at the branch are teachers or former teachers, who I constantly asked questions related to working with children. Having a job that gives you a glimpse at what you will do in the future is very exciting.

What rewarding or special experiences have you had being a tutor or student worker in a non-tutoring position?
The confidence that I have gained through being a tutor, along with being apart of the Delta Zeta sorority on campus has been so rewarding. I used to struggle while talking to anyone and would get really scared to talk to people, but because of my job and other activities, my confidence went up. I feel like I can talk to anyone no matter if it’s a professor, peer, parent or student. It has overall made me a better person and communicator.
