What made you want to work as an America Reads Tutor while attending CSU?
One of my good friends, Jenna, is a tutor for this program and recommended it to me. She said it was a really good experience and that she enjoyed working with the kids, so I thought I would give it a try, and I am so glad I did!
What did you gain from being a tutor?
There are many things that I have gained from being a tutor. I worked with a very diverse group of kids that came from all different backgrounds, schools, age groups, etc. This has taught me how to appreciate the students as individuals. Not all the students have the same resources as others such as books, technology, good teachers, and much more so it has greatly increased my skills in being adaptable and has taught me to work with the foundation that the students have and go from there.
Why did you choose to attend CSU?
I picked CSU because of their wonderful nursing program and the location of Cleveland only being an hour away from my hometown. I also love how there are so many different things to do around campus including tourist attractions, shopping, restaurants, museums, and the metro parks, there is always something to do!
Any thoughts on why other students should get involved with America Reads or Viking Corps while they are students?
It is extremely important to get involved and give back to your community. What better way to do that than becoming part of one of the many wonderful programs at CSU? CPL America Reads allows you to stay involved and give back to your community while working with great kids and meeting other great people along the way.
