Meet Taryn Pryor

TarynTaryn is a freshman at CSU majoring in Healthcare Management. Taryn tutors at the Garden Valley and Rockport branches of the CPL. She wanted to work for the OCE America Reads program because she wanted to help the kids in the Cleveland community with their schoolwork and try to make them better at handling their studies.

Taryn’s friend and fellow America Reads tutor, Saba Bekuretsion, referred her to the OCE America Reads program and is happy that she took the opportunity. Taryn suggests, “Other students should get involved with these programs because it helps you with your communication skills. It also helps you try different techniques with teaching the students their work. At the end of the day, you are making a child's day better by helping them with their schoolwork and they go to school knowing more!”

Taryn shared, “She grew up having social anxiety and it was hard talking to others.” Taryn feels she will gain many skills for her future, especially in communication through tutoring with America Reads.

Taryn wanted to attend CSU because, ”the school seemed so welcoming, it has a beautiful campus, and the people that I met made it all worth it.” Taryn is a member of the Black Student Union.
